Friday Meatspiration

Haute hot dogs with unusual toppings have been trendy here in NYC for a couple of years now, and I've approved of every last concoction.

A schmear of cream cheese and everything bagel seeds? Totally. Pineapple? Okay, sure. Avocado? If you say so.

But Bachelor Girl sent us a link last week to this hot dog balloon featured on Craft Gossip, and it's really testing the limits of what I consider appropriate hot dog condiment:

At first, I thought it was a heart-shaped hot dog with a ketchup kite string and a mustard middle. Even though I've never seen the sugar-free ketchup that the rest of the U.S. is apparently enjoying here in NYC, I figured a packet of regular ketchup here and there is no problem.

But then I realized that the yellow filling is egg. Am I being a baby, or is that objectively weird?

I'm all about hot dogs and eggs. Seriously. Num nums. It's sort of like sausage and eggs .... except not.

Also, I used to make my own sugar free ketchup when I was lo-carbin it. Good and easy.

Apparently you're right about the sausage and eggs, since Tracey both revealed that she's had it before and I had just had fantasies today about a breakfast sandwich involving hot dogs without even realizing what I was thinking. DAMMIT.

Anyway, thank you for that recipe. It looks like something even I could make (and feel good about).
NO NO NO!!!!!

Hotdogs love mustard! Not eggs! MUSTARD!

Although now that I'm stopping to think about it, a dish of hotdogs and eggs does sound intriguing...

Research to be conducted forthwith.
I have to admit that I was grossed out by the thought of that being egg instead of cheese or mustard, but then I realized that I've actually HAD hot dogs and eggs and loved it.

But the hot dogs were cut up into little bits, and the eggs were scrambled, and the ONLY reason I even ate something so strange was because I was desperate one night when I NEEDED something low carb to eat, and I was out of breakfast meat to go with my eggs.

That ketchup belongs nowhere near the eggs, though, and I'm comforted by the fact that they aren't touching.

Okay, what's funny is that this morning, I was thinking about how great it is that I have those Bagel Thins in my refrigerator thanks to Fresh Direct, and I was considering making a breakfast sandwich for myself before work tomorrow. Then I realized I don't have any sausage, but I immediately thought, "Oh, I can just fry some hot dogs and cut them in half."

That's messed up.
Hey, thanks for the comment you left on my blog. I appreciate it. I actually had just done what you suggested... get old photos of me at my heaviest and tried to look at how far I've come. Thanks for the advice!

By the way, how do I follow your blog? Feel free to follow mine too! :)

I try the looking-at-thinner-photos-for-inspiration thing all of the time, but it usually just makes me feel like I'll never get back to that point. It's usually when I see fatter me that I'm reminded of how worth the work it is to be thinner.

I added the follow thing to our sidebar if you want to check it out. I'm already following you in my Google Reader.
Never tried hotdogs and eggs together to tell the truth. But I am typically a food purist, I want my hotdogs on buns with ketchup and mustard. The end. Soooo, minus the bun - I just can't eat them. I've tried all kinds of stuff, including baconnaise, but when it comes down to it, I have to go for the simple and plain in order to stick to low carb.

But don't you REALLY APPRECIATE the CHALLENGE that low-carb provides your imagination? Suddenly even a stalk of celery seems like the perfect hot dog vehicle when I get desperate enough.
Awesome post admin thanks for sharing.
